Persona 5 Tactica is an upcoming tactical role-playing game developed by P-Studio and published by Sega. The game is a spin-off from the Persona series, itself a part of the larger Megami Tensei franchise. It is scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 17, 2023.

Persona 5 Tactica takes place concurrently with the events of Persona 5 (2016), depicting the Phantom Thieves of Hearts as they are transported to an alternate world overcome with war and oppression, prompting an alliance with a group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Corps to stage a revolution against the tyrannical Legionnaires. Gameplay will encompass standard conventions of strategy RPGs, including grid-based navigation, a weapon affinity system and turn-based combat, while employing several staple gameplay mechanics from the series such as Persona summoning and fusion, and elemental affinities.

Persona 5 Tactica entered development due to a desire at Atlus to create a game in the strategy role-playing genre within the Persona series, leveraging the publisher's past experiences with similarly styled games, in addition to the correlation between the genre and the established world of Persona 5.

Gameplay
Persona 5 Tactica is a tactical role-playing video game in which the player controls a party of up to three characters on a grid-based map populated by enemy units, who are directly confronted through the initiation of turn-based encounters. The ally units a player may take into battle comprise the central members of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, as well the Rebel Corps' leader Erina. At any point while navigating the grid, the player will be able to approach enemies directly for a close-quarters physical attack, or they may select an action from the Command menu. "Gun" enables an ally unit to use a ranged weapon for physical damage, that is also capable of targeting multiple enemy units if they are within the vicinity of the attack. Alternatively, the Phantom Thieves are capable of summoning their Personas during encounters, enabling them to use a variety of Skills at the cost of Skill Points (SP). In a similar vein to the battle system in Persona 5, Skills encompass magic-based attacks that represent different elemental affinities. Battles entail exploiting an enemy's weakness to a particular type of Skill, which grants the player "1 More" turn to select another command or repeat their previous attack. When multiple enemy units have been weakened, while being surrounded by ally units in a triangular formation on the grid, the player is prompted to initiate a special Skill known as "Triple Threat". This Skill functions similarly to the "All-Out Attack" in Persona 5 and other Megami Tensei games, dealing significant damage that is potentially capable of eliminating all the targeted enemies on the map.

Outside battle, the player is able to collect additional Personas for use by Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves and sole possessor of the "Wild Card" ability which allows him to use multiple Personas. These Personas may be obtained through means such as negotiating with and recruiting them during battle, or fusing multiple Personas either equipped to Joker or accessible through the Persona Compendium. The game's story progression involves combatting enemy units on maps set between three different kingdoms, themselves inspired by real-world historical revolutions.

Premise
During the events of Persona 5 (2016), the Phantom Thieves of Hearts find themselves suddenly displaced in an alternate, Medieval European-inspired world during a routine meetup at Cafe LeBlanc, ahead of the senior-most members of the team graduating from Shujin Academy. They soon come into contact and form an alliance with Erina, the leader of a group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Corps, vowing to help her stage a coup and free this world from its authoritarian rule under a new enemy known as the Legionnaires, while uncovering the truth of its mysterious origins.
